Osama Kadi Named Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs

SCPSS President to Advise Interim Prime Minister on Syrian Economy


Washington, DC – On November 14, 2013, following the first meeting of the government of Syrian interim Prime Minister Ahmed Touma, Syrian Center for Political and Strategic Studies (SCPSS) President Dr. Osama Kadi was named Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs.

As Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, Dr. Osama Kadi will advise Prime Minister Touma on means for rebuilding and revitalizing the economy in the liberated areas of Syria.


Dr. Kadi brings to the Syrian interim government an abundance of expertise on economics and economic policy. Dr. Kadi is the president of the Syrian Economic Task Force (SETF) that published The Economic Map for New Syria series of economic reports that tackle fifteen economic sectors; and is the Syrian Focal Point of Platform II: Economic Recovery & Private Sector Engagement with the Friends of Syria group (leading countries UAE, Germany, UK). He was the head of the Syrian economic delegation in all the Friends of Syria conferences. (i.e. Abu Dhabi; Berlin; and Dubai).


He taught economics at many American universities such as University of Michigan, and has written tens of articles and many books especially on Syrian political economy; and has worked as an international economics consultant for the Agency of Combating Unemployment in Damascus, UNDP, and UNV.
